Discussion: Immigration
How this discussion forum works:
This is a group discussion so you will only see the posts from students in your group.
1. Complete the activity listed. In this case it is reading a report from a research think-tank.
2. Answer the prompts listed below. There are no "correct" answers, only well constructed, substantive responses as discussed below. Your initial prompt must be completed by the initial due date listed.
3. Read ALL of your classmates responses. Comment on at least two posts on two different days.
4. THIS IS IMPORTANT: For full credit, you will do three posts three different days. (edited for clarity)
• First post is your response to both prompts by the initial due date
• Second post is a response to a classmate by the "until" date
• Third post is another response to a classmate by the "until" date
This means that if you try and complete all three posts on the last day 10 minutes before the assignment closes, you will lose points
NOTE: You will not be able to review your classmates' posts until AFTER you do your initial post.
Read the following article from the Pew Research Center:
On Immigration Policy, Partisan Differences but Also Some Common Ground (Links to an external site.) (click on the link)
After reading the article, address the following prompts in your response to this discussion:
Prompt #1: Given the current rhetoric surrounding the topic of immigration in our country, what findings did you find most interesting/intriguing? Explain why (use terminology from the readings)
Prompt #2: Imagine yourself in the role of a law enforcement officer working in the community you currently live in. With that framework in mind how could you use this information to influence relations with that community?
Your initial responses should follow these guidelines:
Prompt #1: Response is a well thought out, demonstrates the student read the material, and considered its relevance to the content from the lesson. Minimum post no less than 150 words.
Prompt #2: Response is a well thought out and demonstrates the student is able to take the knowledge learned in the lessons and apply it to a hypothetical situation. Minimum responses are no less than 50 words each.
Both responses are clear, concise, compelling and contain minimal spelling or grammatical errors.
